Step#1. Go out of the Airport building and take
1. mini-bus – costs about 100-200 rubles to any metro station. Mini-buses come almost every 5 minutes so you’ll not wait for long! Don’t change all money at the Airport, only for your travel to Moscow city (Euro 10-20 not more). You can change it in Moscow city, it will be more beneficial for you (Euro 1 costs about 75 rubles). And please change your money at Currency Exchange, not private way.
2. train – costs 320 rubles. Visit their official website There you can study all the information about the schedules, routes, stations etc. Your way will depend on the airport you arrive at: Sheremetyevo (SVO), Domodedovo (DME) or Vnukovo (VKO).
Step#2. When you are in the metro station get a metro-ticket (one trip costs about 50 rubles). You can use your ticket only one time when you enter the metro station, but during your travelling inside underground system you can change trains as many times as you need.
You need to come to “Komsomolskaya” (Комсомольская) metro station. Get out on this station.
Step#3. Attention! You need to get to Kazanskiy train station (Казанский вокзал) which is situated on Komsomolskaya metro station.
PLEASE NOTE!! It will save you a lot of time if you take the Казанский вокзал (Kazanskiy vokzal) exit from the metro station. Please look very carefully for this sign, it will be in the middle of the metro station between the two platforms on a sign suspended from the ceiling or in the corridors on the wall.
Step#4a. On Kazanskiy train station you need to find the ticket-office (see the scheme), it’s called in Russian – Kassa (Касса). You have to buy the ticket to Cheboksary (Чебоксары). You can pay only in roubles so you should have your money exchanged into roubles by that time then. The train leaves at 20.16. (the number of the train is #54), and arrives to Cheboksary at 9.16. The train tickets can cost really different – Platzkart (Плацкарт) – 3rd class – about 1600 rubles (about 40 euro), Kupe (Купе) – 2nd class – 3000 rubles (75 euro), there are some more expensive tickets but to our mind it’s not necessary. If you want to be sure to have the ticket you can buy it in advance on the Russian Railways official webpage
If you didn’t manage to buy the train ticket to Cheboksary, or your plane arrives later or earlier and you will not be able to take this train, there is also a possibility to use a bus. It costs 800-1000 rub (20-25 euro). Just go to the main entrance of Kazansky vokzal and you will hear some women shouting “Cheboksary”. Come to them and ask for the place in the bus – “Mne nado odno mesto do Cheboksar” (“I need one place to Cheboksary”) You can’t book the bus ticket but there are always free places there. The buses to Cheboksary depart form Kazansky vokzal at 8.30, 9.00, 11.00, 19.00, 20.00. The trip will take about 10-11 hours and you will arrive to the bus station in Cheboksary.
